The Sea – Etruscan Coast

The main part of the Etruscan Coast is included in the area located in the middle of the coastal strip and includes, in addition to the magnificent naturalistic oasis of Bolgheri, the beautiful coastal pine forests of Cecina and Donoratico; the wooded hills of Bibbona, Bolgheri and Monte Calvi, where Mediterranean vegetation alternates with beautiful chestnut groves.

Cultural-historical interest is centered in the medieval villages of Castagneto Carducci, Suvereto and Campiglia Marittima, which preserve eloquent vestiges of city walls and fortified buildings.

In the Monte Calvi area there has been an important mining and mineral processing activity since Etruscan times-as evidenced by the remains of some furnaces. Another center of interest is the area of the Piombino promontory, which in the northern part presents a combination of naturalistic and archaeological aspects: the splendid gulf of Baratti and the necropolis of Populonia, the ancient Populonia, the only Etruscan city that arose as a base for maritime trade and processing of the metal extracted on the nearby island of Elba.

Also noteworthy is the presence of several nature parks, for example, Rimigliano Park in St. Vincent. This coastal stretch suggestively called the Etruscan Coast is a unique opportunity to savor all those elements that make the Maremma a land at once rugged and gentle.

It is a land, the Etruscan Coast, where, in every season, it is easy to choose. That is why it is different. All year round it is vacation, desire and desire to discover, in this corner of Tuscany the harmonious coexistence of sea, nature, art and history is realized

You can find many “souls”: a “seafaring” soul first of all, reflecting the crystalline hue of its waters, with shades ranging from deep blue to emerald green. Deep and endless beaches, cliffs smelling brackish and windy, protected by cozy pine forests; it is a corner of the Mediterranean alive.

Then the soul of nature: a varied and rich environment that allows you to experience and discover numerous parks and protected areas, but wisely usable, botanical oases, wildlife refuges “home” to rare and valuable species, a dense vegetation of deep pine forests and woods hugging the hills.

Finally, the lazy, yellow-orange soul of the countryside, with its scents, crossed by the wine road, mother of noble vineyards and silver olive trees, which give fame to wines and oils all over the world.

Finally, what about the flavors of cuisine and gastronomy? A word of warning: you will really experience the pleasure of researching and discovering unique flavors. In the miles of the Etruscan Coast you can really get hold of the two souls of Tuscan cuisine: meat and fish, countryside and brackish waters. All held in an inextricable, centuries-old embrace of tenacious traditions and unshakable customs.

Alongside the seafaring tradition still furore the trattorias, places of worship for the popular myth of the wild boar and the related art of hunting. All washed down with prestigious local wines that sink their taste into a tradition that the world is dealing with.
